Our next chapter meeting will be January 17th, 2023 at the Pine Tree Country Club.

Bruce Canoles will make a presentation on his 2022 World Hunting Award Multiple Methods campaign. He achieved the Alternative Methods 24 Milestone Award in ten months by taking 8 animals each with a handgun, a crossbow, and a muzzleloader. In doing so he also completed the WHA Diamond level Inner Circle for both Multiple Methods and Introduced Animals of North America. Bruce had no prior experience with either NA introduced animals or alternative weapons. When the Covid outbreak canceled two planned international trips he investigated hunting opportunities closer to home to pursue his WHA goals. Bruce was pleasantly surprised to find these new experiences to be both richly entertaining and often challenging.

Steve Long and students from the University of Montevallo will be speaking about the Outdoor Scholars Program. The program started 8 years ago with 8 students. Now enrollment is over 100 students. The Outdoor Scholars Program is a recruiting tool established to bring young people to the University with a passion for the outdoors. The department includes a Bass Fishing Team, Archery Team, and a Sporting Gun Team. Montevallo is the only university in the country with a program like this. The demand to get into the program is strong, which is encouraging that there are lot of young people that still have a passion for the outdoors.

About Us

SCI is the leader in protecting the freedom to hunt and in promoting wildlife conservation worldwide.

Being a nonprofit organization with dedication to education, conservation of wildlife, and the preservation of our hunting rights, our money goes to these causes. The money to further these causes comes primarily from our annual fundraising banquet. Since the first of the year 2000, our chapter has donated over $300,000 to causes we feel are worthwhile. For education, conservation, and humanitarian services, over 80% of our money has been spent in Alabama.

Safari Club International is the fastest growing and most proactive hunting organization in the world. Founded in 1971, SCI has grown to more than 37,000 members and more than one million affiliated members worldwide. Our bond is our love of hunting and wildlife conservation. SCI is a leader in wildlife conservation issues throughout the world, from the great prairies of North America to the savannahs, veldt, and jungle of Africa and to the windswept mountains of Asia.
